Luxury Home Renovation Design Trends for 2017

As a leading luxury home renovator in the Scottsdale and Phoenix markets, we'd like to share some of the trends we foresee for 2017. If you’re thinking about renovating your home, these are definitely some of the things you might want to consider while you’re at it.

  1. Green Technologies and Sustainability: There are so many options today when it comes to sustainable living and energy conservation. You can make simple changes such as purchasing energy efficient appliances, changing your lighting to LED, upgrading your HVAC to a higher efficiency rating, and installing programmable thermostats. You can also do more by adding solar, greywater re-use systems, energy star windows, and so on. During your renovation, a small investment today in sustainability can save you thousands over the life of your home. Sustainability has been on the rise in construction for the past 30 years. It has become more and more relevant in the residential sector; I believe we will be seeing major growth and development for sustainability in the residential sector over the course of 2017 as new technologies become more cost effective and easily integrated.

  2. Statement Pieces: Each room in your home should make its own statement. What better way to do that than by using a clever statement pieces such as a mirror, light fixture, built-in piece of furniture, dramatic wall, or a beautiful ceiling treatment. The ideas are endless. Giving each room its own statement pieces creates the “Wow Factor” you’re looking for as you move from space to space.

  3. Timeless Design: Following too closely with design trends today when selecting your finish materials such as carpet, tile, granite, hardware, fixtures, etc. can give your home a very cookie cutter feeling. Each decade, renovation design trends toward a different direction. It’s easy to look at a home and have a general idea of when the home was constructed or last renovated when you fall too easily for what’s trendy at that specific time. It may help to think in terms of timelessness. When making selections, do your research, and base your finish selections on historical “loves” for the architectural style of your home. As an example: if your home is Spanish Colonial, then you may want to consider adding support beams, dark fixtures and hardware, light walls, Spanish tiles, etc. Basing your interior selections on the architectural style of the home rather than the trends of today will ensure the timelessness of the home design for decades to come.

  4. Convenience and Automation: This trend is completely based on the question, “How can I make things easier for me at home?”. In 2017, automation and convenience are key. Great ideas include wireless technologies, whole home integration, hydraulic cabinet doors, and motion sensor fixtures.

  5. Benjamin Moore has shared their “Color Trends for 2017here. We are loving the selections! Especially their selected color of the year- Shadow 2117-30!
